Alongside the banks of the Grand River lie the enchanting communities of Elora and Fergus – only five minutes apart, and just an hour outside Toronto.

An area rich in culture, dining, historical heritage and world-renowned festivals and events, you’ll find many unique Bed and Breakfast experiences that will ensure a good night’s rest and hearty breakfast to help you make the most of the time you spend here.

Attractions

The Elora Gorge is one of the most scenic areas in southern Ontario, with limestone cliffs descending 80 feet into the Grand and Irvine Rivers where small caves, rapids, falls, and quiet waters beckon adventurous visitors. The Grand has been designated a Heritage River, and is a premier fly fishing destination that attracts anglers from around the world.

The area is also well known for its award-winning festivals, including the Fergus Scottish Festival and Highland Games and the Fergus Truck Show—both the largest events of their kind in North America. The Elora Festival brings the world of music to the area every July and August, and the Festival Singers perform on various special dates throughout the year.

Bed Race

A number of years ago, we sponsored a Bed Race as part of Sensational Elora. You can see some pretty funny pictures here...

Elora and Fergus

Elora is a charming village first settled in the early 1800s by mainly Scottish pioneers, and has been admired for its special beauty since its beginnings. Walking along Mill, Metcalfe and Geddes Streets, you will find many artisans and boutiques offering local hand-blown glass, art, jewellery, fashion, fine crafts and antiques, dotted with quaint cafés, pubs and restaurants.

A.J. Casson from Canada’s Group of Seven artists had a special love for this town and became ‘obsessed’ with sketching it, claiming that it was “unlike any other Ontario town”.  Casson’s initial impression of the area and its natural beauty still resonates today and is complimented by the feeling of antiquity the town has been able to maintain through the years.

Fergus, originally known as “Little Falls,” is an attractive town steeped in history and enhanced by the town’s collection of well-preserved 19th century stone buildings. The Grand River winds its way through the downtown and acts as the site for some of the finest hiking, cycling, water activities, shopping and dining, not to mention its part as the scenic backdrop for downtown Fergus and live theatre.
